Information about Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria in Companion Animals
Antimicrobial-resistant bacterial infections in pets can be challenging to treat, but they can also have public health importance, as some bacteria can be shared between pets and people. When those infections in pets are resistant to antibiotics considered critical for treating people with severe infections, veterinarians and pet owners should be aware and take steps to minimize spread of disease. Educational fliers posted here help veterinary personnel and pet owners learn more about carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales, carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas, and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus in pet dogs, cats, and horses.
