Case Follow-Up

Treatment:

Surgical repair of diaphragmatic hernia and surgical removal of gastric foreign body.
A large diaphragmatic hernia was found in the right crua with much of the small intestines and liver extending into the thorax. The hernia involved the entire right side of the diaphragm with a rectangular defect involving 2 tears in the muscular portion and avulsion of the rib attachment. The abdominal cavity was explored and the only other lesion found was a round foreign body approximately 5cm in diameter in the lumen of the stomach (golf ball). The herniated organs were gently removed from the thorax. There was no evidence of vascular compromise to the organs and the hernia was sutured closed and the foreign body was removed.
