Case Follow-Up

Final Diagnostics

Osteochondritis dessicans of the left stifle with secondary osteoarthrosis.

Recommendations and Treatment:

Recommended left stifle arthrotomy for exploration of the joint and debridement of the lesion. Ovariohysterectomy was also recommended, as OCD may be passed genetically.

Therapy included Rimadyl (carprofen) 100 mg by mouth every 12 hours as needed for pain.

The owners were told to restrict activity to leash walks only for urination and defecation.

It was also recommended to supplement the Rimadyl with glucosamine/chondroitin.
