Ophthalmology Residency
The Veterinary Health Center at Kansas State University is offering a three year ophthalmology residency which combines residency training with graduate work leading to the M.S. Degree. The goal of the program is to prepare the resident to pursue an academic career if desired. During the training program it is expected that the resident will become qualified to take the certifying examination of the American Board of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ABVO) and will have completed the course work and research needed to defend for a M.S. degree. This intense training program requires the successful applicant to have established an excellent academic record and to have achieved intern level or greater clinical competency.
The Ophthalmology Service is supported by two board certified ophthalmologists. The residency is further supported by board certified faculty in large and small animal medicine and surgery, anesthesiology, cardiology, dermatology, zoological medicine, radiology, and oncology. The VHC has an excellent case load for residency training and offers exposure to all domestic species as well as exotics. The Ophthalmology Service has state of the art diagnostic and surgical equipment.
Residents receive semi-annual written evaluations which are discussed with the Resident Advisor and Hospital Director. Annual reappointment is contingent upon continued satisfactory performance in all aspects of the program.
The resident must be present for orientation on the first day of the program.
