Equine Medicine Residency

The Veterinary Health Center at Kansas State University is offering a three year Equine Internal Medicine Residency. The equine service at the VHC is supported by 5 board certified specialists and one emergency clinician. The equine residency is further supported by board certified faculty in anesthesiology, cardiology, dermatology, oncology, ophthalmology and radiology.

The program is designed to provide clinical and academic training to fulfill American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine requirements and prepare the resident for ACVIM board certification and a career in academic or private referral practice. Enrollment in the graduate school and completion of a program leading to the Master of Science degree is required. The clinical responsibilities include management of referral internal medicine, in-house emergency cases, and emergency field service calls. Of 2,200 equine hospital accessions per year, approximately 475 cases are managed by the internal medicine service.

Residents receive semi-annual written evaluations which are discussed with the Resident Advisor and Hospital Director. Annual reappointment is contingent upon continued satisfactory performance in all aspects of the program.

The resident must be physically present for orientation on the first day of the program.
